July 8 – The Bikeriders

Meet ONLINE from 7:00-10:00 PM Pacific Time on July 8th for an in-depth analysis and discussion of the screenplay THE BIKERIDERS.

LOGLINE: Set in the turbulent 1960s, a local Midwestern motorcycle racing club becomes a regional haven for misfits and outcasts, forcing an essential member to choose between his commitment to the club and the woman he loves.

ABOUT THE WRITER: The Bikeriders is the sixth feature film written and directed by JEFF NICHOLS, all of which featured Michael Shannon. Nichols wrote his first screenplay, Shotgun Stories, with Shannon in mind, contacted the actor through a mutual friend, and shot the film on a budget of $250,000. His next film, Take Shelter, paired Shannon with Jessica Chastain and premiered at Sundance in 2011. That was followed by Mud, which starred Matthew McConaughey, played in competition at Cannes, and won the Robert Altman prize at the Spirit Awards. His most recent film, Loving, about the US Supreme Court case that invalidated laws prohibiting interracial marriage, was nominated for an Oscar, two Globes, two Spirits, a WGA award, and an MTV Movie award, among many other accolades. (more to come). The Bikeriders was inspired by the 1968 book of the same name by photojournalist and civil rights activist DANNY LYON, which chronicled the lifestyle of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club.
